Inspired by the English countryside in summer, Fields of Gold captures a barley field at the height of the season, when the landscape is filled with warm yellows, ochres and soft greens.
I was drawn to the layers of colour and texture running through the field, and the contrast between the expanse of gold and the darker hedgerow beyond. Built up through layers of expressive marks, the painting has a rich surface that gives a sense of movement and depth.
